Glossary

Nine terms worth knowing before you start.

Social commerce
Selling products directly inside social media platforms, so that discovery and purchase happen in the same environment rather than being split between an app and an external website.
Shoppable content
Any post, video, or live stream with a product attached to it, allowing a viewer to begin a purchase from the content itself instead of searching for the item elsewhere.
In-app checkout
Completing payment without leaving the social platform. This is the mechanic that separates social commerce from ordinary social media marketing, and the reason conversion rates differ so much.
Social storefront
A browsable product catalogue attached to your profile on a platform. It gives visitors somewhere to go after a single post interests them, functioning as a shop rather than a single listing.
Live shopping
Selling in real time during a broadcast, with products presented as cards viewers can tap. It suits launches, bundles, and anything that benefits from demonstration or time pressure.
Conversational commerce
Completing a sale through comments or direct messages. Common for bespoke, made-to-order, or high-value goods where a buyer has questions before committing.
Attribution
The rule that determines which piece of content receives credit for a sale. Post-level attribution assigns that credit to an individual post rather than to a whole platform.
Creator affiliate
A creator who earns commission for sales generated by their own content. It's the standard way to grow your library of selling content without producing more of it yourself.
Repurposing
Reworking content you already published into a new format or onto a new surface. In social commerce it usually means adding products to posts that already proved they hold attention.
